High Meadows has two full-time employees in the Camp / Outdoor Education Program office, including the Camp Director and the Associate Camp Director. While camp is in operation during the summer, each age division of campers is headed by a Unit Leader who oversees staff and programming.
John Dovic, Camp Director
John earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Dallas and has been involved in organized camping and outdoor education programs since 1987. He joined High Meadows in 1999.
With the exception of transitioning CITs, staff members hired for the summer must be at least 18 years old with experience and interest in camping, outdoor recreation, and child development. The staff is made up of mainly college students, teachers, and other professionals. Many campers return to High Meadows as staff members after completing our two-year Counselor-in-Training program. High Meadows prides itself on the quality and dedication of its staff. Many of our camp leaders have been at camp for well over 10 summers. At High Meadows we emphasize that the job is more than child care – we are here to provide an enriching, engaging and formative experience for our campers in which personal relationships with staff members are fundamental.
